Bring your walls to life with fine art poster prints.

Robert Joyette's work is rooted in remembrance and resistance. His brush does not just paint—it resurrects. Through bold lines and striking cultural symbolism, Robert brings forward the silenced history of Black Natives and Aboriginal Indigenous peoples of the Americas and Caribbean, whose stories were systematically erased under colonial rule.

In the Caribbean, the Taíno, Arawak, Lucayan, Carib, and Kalinago peoples faced calculated genocide through enslavement, disease, and massacre. Within decades of Columbus's arrival, populations numbering in the millions were declared "extinct"—a convenient colonial lie. Those who survived often mixed with African peoples, creating Black Indigenous communities that faced continued erasure as colonizers denied Indigenous identity to anyone who didn't fit their narrow definitions.

The 1924 Racial Integrity Act in Virginia exemplified this violence: Native peoples of darker complexion were forcibly reclassified as "Negro," severing bloodlines and erasing tribal recognition. Throughout the Caribbean, similar systems stripped mixed-heritage communities of their Indigenous ancestry, invalidating land claims and criminalizing cultural practices.

Robert's art refuses that silence. His work honors the Taíno spirals still carved in caves, the Arawak cosmology surviving in hidden practices, the Kalinago resistance continuing today, and the countless descendants who carry Indigenous DNA despite being told they were extinct. By capturing these stories in color and form, Robert calls us to witness, remember, and resist. His art is a visual act of survival—a declaration that the Aboriginal ancestors are still here, speaking through his brush, demanding recognition, refusing erasure.
