Maternity Reclaimed Framed Canvas
Description
Maternity Reclaimed began as a confrontation with Picasso — with the Western art world's long tradition of centering the European mother as the universal image of tenderness, sacrifice, and sacred femininity. Katherin Joyette took that compositional language and returned it to its true subject: the Caribbean woman, the Afro-Indigenous mother, the one the canon excluded.
But this piece is also something more intimate than cultural reclamation. It is a self-portrait of a journey.
To raise a child alone is to be asked to become whole before you are ready — to find grace while you are still learning what grace costs, to find strength while you are still tracing the shape of your own mother wound. It is to mother a child and simultaneously re-mother yourself: to excavate what was not given to you, to grieve it, and then to choose to give it anyway. The Caribbean woman has been doing this for centuries — holding her children through loss, displacement, and erasure, without anyone holding her.
This portrait honors that. The tenderness in it is hard-won. The strength in it is not performance — it is what remains after everything that tried to break the lineage failed.
For every woman who has raised a child while raising herself. For every mother who is also still someone's daughter, still in the middle of her own healing.

I put on the Aboriginal Spiral Goddess tee and I literally felt something shift. My grandmother was Taíno — and wearing this feels like wearing proof that we were never gone. The quality is immaculate, the print hasn't faded through multiple washes, and I've gotten more conversations started with this shirt than anything I've ever worn. This is not just apparel. This is armor.

The print arrived and I cried. My mother hung it in her healing room immediately. The colors are richer in person than any photo could capture. Livity Tree Art is doing sacred work.

Ordered the Tree of Life hoodie. Soft, heavy weight, prints sharp. I've bought from a dozen "conscious" brands — this is the first one that actually knows its history.
