Cape Verdean Hibiscus Classic Semi-Glossy Paper Poster
Description
The island does not forget what it grew.
This is not a flower print. This is a transmission.
The hibiscus has been growing in the Cape Verde archipelago long before Portugal named the islands, long before the Atlantic trade routes rewrote who belonged where. It is one of the most enduring botanical signatures of West African coastal culture — carried in the hands of women who knew which plants healed, which plants fed, which plants remembered. In Cape Verde, the hibiscus is not ornamental. It is ancestral.
Charlie Andrade's acrylic portrait of the Cape Verdean Hibiscus is part of the Erased Daughters Collection — an 11-piece body of work by Livity Tree Art that recovers the visual and cultural record of peoples whose identities were deliberately obscured by colonial classification. The Andrade family of Cape Verde and Cape Cod are documented in Katherin Joyette's ancestral research, part of an ongoing investigation into the Afro-Atlantic diaspora lineages that make up the Livity Tree Art story.
Cape Verde sits at the crossroads of West Africa, the Atlantic, and the Portuguese colonial empire — a place where Senegambian, Mandé, Wolof, Fulani, and European lineages converged and created something singular. The hibiscus, in this context, is a marker of what survived that convergence: botanical memory, matrilineal knowledge, the persistence of beauty as resistance.
To hang this print is to acknowledge that history. It belongs in spaces of healing, of remembrance, of cultural pride — on altars, in studios, in the homes of people who carry Atlantic lineages and are ready to see them honored on the wall.

I put on the Aboriginal Spiral Goddess tee and I literally felt something shift. My grandmother was Taíno — and wearing this feels like wearing proof that we were never gone. The quality is immaculate, the print hasn't faded through multiple washes, and I've gotten more conversations started with this shirt than anything I've ever worn. This is not just apparel. This is armor.

The print arrived and I cried. My mother hung it in her healing room immediately. The colors are richer in person than any photo could capture. Livity Tree Art is doing sacred work.

Ordered the Tree of Life hoodie. Soft, heavy weight, prints sharp. I've bought from a dozen "conscious" brands — this is the first one that actually knows its history.
